Men’s Hair Care – How Often Should You Cut Your Hair?
When it comes to how often you should cut your hair the answer is the same for both men and women. Even women who are known for their long locks still need to have the damaged ends removed. Men tend to keep their hair short and styled so you would think that they would need to a haircut more often, but that isn’t always the case. It really depends on your particular style and the rate at which your hair grows.
If you hair is exposed to a lot of chemicals and products, which most men’s hair is, then damage is being caused and this will mean that regular haircuts are essential to help reduce any long lasting damage and to remove the damage that has already been caused.
Generally speaking hair should be cut at least once every 6 – 8 weeks, which is roughly once in two months. The average person’s hair grows about an inch every month. Your hair texture and sensitivity to damage will also play a determining factor in how often you should cut it. If you regularly get a trim then you should only need to remove around a 1/4 of an inch. If not, you will need to have more taken off to remove any damage and of course bring your hair back to your chosen style.
Take a good look at the general thickness of your hair from root to tip and check for thinning, frizz and split ends. Regular haircuts and trims will help to keep problems like these at bay and even prevent them from happening again.
Trimming hair does have its benefits. It makes it grow stronger and healthier after it’s been exposed to damaging factors like environmental conditions, unprofessional hair care and daily hair styling routines that are harmful and not properly timed. Not cutting your hair can take its toll on hair and can give it an unkempt look.
Having your hair cut often and the ends trimmed by a professional stylist will not only keep your hair looking its best but also make it easily fall in place and assume the style you chose while having it cut. The end result will be great hair that looks well maintained and stylishly trim, provided you take time to determine how often you should cut your hair.
Hair Cut – How to Do it Yourself
Cutting your own hair is a great way to save a little money every month. It can also be really enjoyable when you start getting good at it and experiment with new styles. Many people are put off before even attempting to do it! I have shoulder length wavy hair and rarely need anything more than a trim when I go to a salon so I decided to do it myself and create this “Hair Cut – How to” article for beginners.
Hair Cut – How to get started
You will need a few things to get started: a pair of sharp scissors, a strong medium-toothed comb and a large mirror. I prefer to be seated when I cut my hair but standing is an option; this would allow greater movement to cut own hair but requires a bit more dexterity. It is very important that the scissors are sharp; blunt scissors can result in you pulling your hair instead of cutting.
Hair Cut – How to go about the first attempt
It is best to shampoo your hair and cut it damp and tangle free for your first attempt. Your first style should be a simple one; maybe try a same length hair cut – how to do this? Use a ruler or piece of string to measure and make sure to work in small sections at a time. Comb your hair out from the scalp to the desired length and hold it there between your index and middle fingers. Then simply cut!
Hair Cut – How to improve
Improvement comes with practise and patience – don’t worry though, with the right guidance you should still get reasonable results from the word go! I found a particular guide very helpful in terms of understanding the different sections of the head and how to develop style when cutting own hair.
Good luck!
The Surfer Cut
The Surfer cut is still as righteous as ever, making big comeback with today’s teens and grown-ups alike. So many rock stars and celebrities are wearing the same Surfer cut as decades ago. You don’t have to ride the waves and hang ten, to wear this beach style haircut. The Surfer cut bears some resemblance to the Beatle-cut, which was all the rage in the 1960′s. It’s a perfect haircut for a busy lifestyle, since it requires little styling. The Surfer cut is actually meant to look wind-swept and tousled.
The short version of the Surfer cut is a straight cut that brushes the collar, hangs over the ears and has long bangs across the forehead. Also known as the mop-top in the 60′s because the hair actually resembled a mop, with its contoured shape and tapered sides. The Beatles wore this conceptual haircut during the legendary British invasion of the Pop music world.
The medium length Surfer cut is simply a longer version of the Beatle cut. It hangs over the ears and just touches the shoulders; the sides are tapered to blend in with the top. With long full bangs across the forehead that sweep to one side. A side part looks the best with this haircut. Some guys prefer choppy layers, while others favor the smooth look, resulting from razor cutting the layers. Either way the Surfer cut will frame the face and enhance facial features.
The long Surfer cut is longer than the collar and hangs over the ears. It can be layered in back and on the sides to resemble a feathered look. The front should be layered to allow fullness that can be combed off the forehead or over to one side. It has all the characteristics of long hair and is suitable for straight and wavy hair types.
The Surfer look typically has the appearance of sun bleached hair, but this haircut looks great with any hair color. Blonde highlights can be added to add color and dimension to the cut. Now days, the Surfer cut is as popular as it was in the 60′s, if not more so. You can really “Hang Loose” with this “Old School” haircut.
